You are here: Home > NO HCG
Why we won't use HCG:

First, a Little History about HCG...
Human chorionic gonadotrophin (HCG) is a hormone found in the urine of pregnant women.
It was first used over 60 years ago by British physician A.T.W. Simeons who treated children
with  Frohlich’s syndrome (a condition marked by obesity and delayed development of the
reproductive organs).

Does HCG Work for weight loss?
No, it doesn’t.  We’ve looked at it six ways to Sunday and there is NO credible evidence that
it suppresses appetite or helps distribute fat during weight loss.

But don’t take just our word for it, hear it from ten others…

1 . The Alabama Board of Medical Advisors:
“The use of HCG is extremely controversial and perhaps even harmful.  It has never been proven in
double-blind studies to be an effective weight loss adjunct. The Alabama Board of Medical Examiners
views this practice (use of HCG) as dubious medicine bordering on quackery and will take a
dim view of its continued use”. “Considering that the injections cost from $36 to $45 for three ampules
of 5,000 IU each plus $12 to $15 for 5,000 IU of the compounds that are mixed with the
HCG powder, its only proven weight loss is to patients’ wallets.” (cite)

2. Federal Trade Commission:
“there is no substantial evidence that it (HCG)  increases weight loss beyond that resulting from
caloric restriction”

3. Federal Drug Administration (required labeling on all HCG products):
“HCG has not been demonstrated to be effective adjunctive therapy in the treatment of obesity.
There is no substantial evidence that it increases weight loss beyond that resulting from caloric
restriction, that it causes a more attractive or "normal" distribution of fat, or that it decreases
the hunger and discomfort associated with calorie-restricted diets”.

4. USA Today reporting on Elizabeth Miller (FDA leader for internet and health fraud):
“HCG drops, pills, pellets and sprays are not efficacious and are thus economic fraud”.
Miller “also has concerns about injectable version of HCG for weight loss”. (cite)

5. American Society of Bariatric Physicians:
“The use of HCG for weight loss is not recommended”. (cite)

6. Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA):
“There was no statistically significant difference between those receiving HCG vs placebo” (cite)

7. The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition:
“HCG does not appear to enhance the effectiveness of a rigidly imposed regimen for
weight reduction” (cite)

8.  Journal of Family Practice:
Treatment of obesity with human chorionic gonadotrophin was shown to be of
no better value than saline” (cite)

9. British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology:
After a meta analysis of 24 HCG studies…
“We conclude that there is no scientific evidence that HCG is effective in the treatment of obesity;
it does not bring about weight-loss of fat-redistribution, nor does it reduce hunger or induce a
feeling of well-being” (cite)

10. Archives of Internal Medicine
HCG has no effects on chemical and hormonal parameters measured and offers no advantage over
calorie restriction in promoting weight loss”. (cite)

Bottom line, HCG is no better than saline solution for weight loss.  The 500 calorie a day diet works
but it has been found to be deficient and dangerous by every credible study.  HCG probably won’t be
banned from physicians for awhile because the HCG hormone doesn’t hurt you and the FDA’s job is
to protect the public from things that hurt you.  It's your doctor's job to protect you from "quackery".
As the Alabama Board of Medical Advisors says...

its only proven weight loss is to patients’ wallets”.
